BRAND IDENTITY • PACKAGING • HOSPITALITY

Barn Owl Brewing Co.

I developed a complete brewery identity to work across packaging, merchandise, campaigns, corporate partnerships and the physical taproom experience.

PROJECT DETAILS

Client: Barn Owl Brewing Co.

Location: Kelowna, British Columbia

Services: Brand identity, packaging, print, merchandise, campaigns and environmental graphics.

The Project

Building a brand with room to grow.

Barn Owl Brewing needed an identity that could become part of the brewery itself—not simply a logo placed on a beer can. I developed a flexible visual system that could work across an expanding range of beers while remaining recognisable in the taproom, at events, through merchandise and across the brewery’s communications.

The project grew into a broad collection of connected brand applications, each designed for a different format, audience or occasion while retaining the character of the original identity.

THE IDENTITY

A memorable character at the centre of the brand.

I developed the owl as the central character of the identity: distinctive, adaptable and closely connected to the Barn Owl name. The circular mark I crafted brings the brewery name, owl and beer motif together in one recognisable device. I designed it to be reproduced as a detailed full-colour identity or simplified into a bold single-colour graphic for merchandise, signage, glassware and production applications. This flexibility allowed me to keep the identity consistent without forcing every item to look exactly the same.

PACKAGING

A system designed for an evolving beer range.

The packaging system I designed gives individual beers their own personality while keeping the brewery immediately recognisable. I established a consistent structure, typography and Barn Owl branding to connect the range. Colour, illustration and supporting details can then change to communicate the character of each beer. My final result was not one fixed label template, but a practical system capable of supporting new releases, different formats and production requirements.

PACKAGING EXTENSIONS

The identity across different formats.

I adapted the identity across additional packaging formats, including glass and insulated growlers. Each application retained the recognisable Barn Owl character while responding to different materials, proportions and production requirements. My designs demonstrate how the identity remains consistent across both everyday packaging and more specialised branded products.

THE PHYSICAL BRAND

Creating a recognisable brewery experience

I designed the identity to operate at architectural scale as well as on packaging. Exterior signage concepts explored how the Barn Owl name and visual language could become part of the brewery building itself, helping create a more visible and recognisable destination. Inside the brewery, I continued the identity through tap handles, growlers, coasters, tasting-flight cards and other practical customer touchpoints.

BEYOND THE TAPROOM

A brand designed to travel.

The Barn Owl identity extended into merchandise, events, community activity and social content. Cycling kit, event promotions and taproom materials allowed the brand to appear in different settings while remaining connected to the brewery’s core visual language. These applications helped make the identity feel active and lived-in—not confined to a label or a single piece of packaging.

THE RESULT

More than a label.

Barn Owl became a brand capable of moving confidently between a beer can, a growler, a tap handle, a building, an event and a piece of merchandise. The strength of my work lies in the consistency of the overall identity and its ability to adapt. Each application serves a different practical purpose, but all of them belong recognisably to the same brewery. This is the value of building a complete brand system: individual pieces can change and evolve without losing the central idea that connects them.
